Join us for an insightful webinar where we will introduce and discuss the updated WFME Recognition Criteria, which have been revised for the first time since 2019. This revision process, initiated in spring 2023, incorporates feedback and lessons learned over the past four years from various stakeholders, including WFME-recognized agencies, recognition assessors, the Recognition Committee, and members of the Executive Council. These changes took effect on 1 January 2025 to newly applying agencies and those seeking renewal of Recognition Status after this date.

Key Updates Include:

  • More precise language to ensure clear interpretation.
  • Guidance for situations where the assessed agency is not the sole authority governing the medical school accreditation process.
  • Enhanced clarity to better understand the information requested from agencies.
  • Merged and streamlined criteria to eliminate duplication.
  • Clearer, reorganized sub-criteria for improved understanding.
  • A unified format for guidance sections.
  • Introduction of new criteria focused on cross-border accreditation.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about these important updates to the WFME Recognition Criteria.

Background:

Launched in 2012, the BME Recognition Programme delivers an independent, transparent and rigorous method of ensuring that accreditation of medical schools worldwide is at an internationally accepted and high standard. WFME evaluates compliance of accrediting agencies with pre-defined recognition criteria. Through the process of recognition – self-evaluation and feedback from the expert visiting teams – WFME shares best practice and provides quality improvement measures. Recognition Status is the indicator to the medical education community, to students and to employers that the quality of medical education in schools or programmes accredited by that agency is to an appropriate and rigorous standard.

Target audience:

This webinar series aims to engage anyone interested in the field of basic medical education and its accreditation and WFME recognition, including:

  • Accrediting agencies
  • Representatives of Ministries of Education/Health
  • Medical profession regulators
  • Researchers and scholars in medical education and accreditation
  • Healthcare policymakers
  • Medical students advocating for accreditation/recognition
