Join us for an insightful webinar series exploring the ins and outs of the WFME BME Recognition of Accreditation Programme. Each of the four webinars will be led by experts with direct experience with the Programme and will provide a practical guide to procedures and processes in the BME Recognition of Accreditation Programme, while emphasising the respect to contextualisation.
Each session will showcase speakers who are experienced medical education professionals, experts in accreditation, representatives of recognised agencies. Participants will be able to meet with Professor David Gordon, WFME Past President, who stood at the birth of the Programme, or Dr Marta van Zanten, Senior Director at FAIMER Research, who was instrumental to the development of the programme and specifically the Recognition Criteria. First-hand experience and knowledge about the programme will be shared by Professor M. Ian Bowmer, WFME Assessor and former President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. With other experienced WFME Assessors they will discuss the best practice and dos and don’ts for the accrediting authorities seen through the lens of the Recognition Programme. And last but not least the participants may look forward to meeting with representatives of three WFME-recognised agencies from different local contexts and learn about their path to the WFME Recognition Status and their best practices.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage actively by chatting with others and posing questions. Participants will also receive certificates of participation to recognise their involvement. Additionally, attendees will benefit from access to recordings of the webinars, ensuring valuable information is readily available for reference and further study.

Join us for this unique webinar bringing you the opportunity to hear three success stories of basic medical education accrediting authorities that have been awarded the WFME Recognition Status. Representatives of CACMS (Canada), NCAMC (Iraq) and PAASCU (Philippines) will share their experience gained during the different phases of their involvement in the WFME BME Recognition Programme, focusing on the contextualization of their approach, tailored to their local situation. Background:
Launched in 2012, the BME Recognition Programme delivers an independent, transparent and rigorous method of ensuring that accreditation of medical schools worldwide is at an internationally accepted and high standard. WFME evaluates compliance of accrediting agencies with pre-defined recognition criteria. Through the process of recognition – self-evaluation and feedback from the expert visiting teams – WFME shares best practice and provides quality improvement measures. Recognition Status is the indicator to the medical education community, to students and to employers that the quality of medical education in schools or programmes accredited by that agency is to an appropriate and rigorous standard.

Lisa Graves is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. She completed a residency in family medicine and enhanced skills training in maternal and child health at McGill University and her M.Cl.Sc. at Western in 2018. She held leadership roles at McGill, was the Associate Dean UME at NOSM and was the Associate Dean Faculty Affairs at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) in Kalamazoo Michigan. She is currently the secretary of CACMS (Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools) and CACME (Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education).
Her current educational research interests have been focussed recently in accreditation scholarship, disability in medical education, and social accountability in medical education.
Claudine Le Quellec's academic background is in psychology. While completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, Claudine worked in various positions at the University of Ottawa. Upon graduation, Claudine's part-time position at the Canadian Mathematical Society became full-time and she remained there for ten years as Assistant to the Executive Director and Managing Editor.
In 1997, Claudine joined the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) – formerly, the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges (ACMC). In her role of Accreditation Manager, Claudine oversees all aspects of the planning and delivery of accreditation of Canadian undergraduate medical education programmes for the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) and Canadian university-based offices of continuing medical education for the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME).
In her free time, Claudine likes to hike in the summer and cross-country ski in the winter.

Mr. Ricardo Palo serves various academic and business institutions and has done so for more than 30 years, teaching accounting, finance, management, and leadership subjects. As an academic, he assumed various posts as student affairs head, chairperson of an educational program, curriculum director, and vice president for academic affairs in higher education institutions. He also served as a Quality Assurance assessor and consultant to various schools and external quality assurance agencies in the ASEAN region under the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and the European Union Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (EU-SHARE). He was also a technical advisory committee member of the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN). He is currently the Executive Director of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU), where he manages the operations of the Secretariat and leads the agency to improve its services continuously and to seek recognition and membership with various external quality assurance agencies like the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and the affiliate membership with the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
Mr. Palo's professional journey is marked by his diverse roles and responsibilities. As a certified public accountant (CPA), he has provided training, audit, and consultancy services to various firms in the Philippines. His past experiences include being an auditor at Sycip, Gorres, Velayo & Co., an analyst at Colgate-Palmolive Philippines Inc., and a CPA Board Reviewer. Currently, he serves as an independent director of St. Peter Life Plan, Inc., the largest pre-need insurance company in the Philippines.
Mr. Palo's academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, majoring in Accountancy, at San Beda University. He furthered his education by earning a Master’s in Business Administration at the Ateneo University Graduate School of Business. In addition to his full-time role as the Executive Director of PAASCU, he shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching Business and Accounting courses in various higher education and training institutions.
Jana Cohlová joined WFME in 2021. Her role is in the management of the WFME Recognition Programme, and also includes support for the Risk Committee and the WFME office. She sometimes joins the WFME Recognition Teams.
She studied at the University of Economics, Prague, Czech Republic, majoring in International Trade. Before joining WFME, she worked for the Social Health Institute, Palacký University Olomouc, as a project associate. She has also been running her own freelance translation and interpreting business for almost 20 years.
She is based in the Czech Republic.
