Agostinho Moreira de Sousa, MD, MPH, FFPH, has served as President of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) 2014/15. He represented IFMSA in the WFME Executive Council and AMEE Executive Committee from 2012 to 2014. As Medical Education Officer in the European Junior Doctors, he was once again a member of the AMEE Executive Committee from 2018 to 2019. He was also a member of the Portuguese Medical Association – Resident Doctor’s National Council from 2015 to 2021.
During his terms as IFMSA official, he represented the organization in more than 40 international meetings, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, World Health Assemblies, and WHO Technical meetings and in more than 30 IFMSA International meetings, where, in some of those, conducted capacity-building workshops in the fields of medical education, public health and leadership.
Agostinho is now working as a Consultant in Public Health Medicine in the Extreme Events and Health Protection team at the UK Health Security Agency. He holds a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with the support of a Fulbright Scholarship and with a Howard C. and Jane R. Goodman Scholarship. He holds a Master in Medicine from ICBAS – University of Porto. During his studies, he did an Erasmus Placement in the Faculty of Medicine – University of Ljubljana.
