María del Carmen García is a medical graduate with Master’s degrees in Hospital and Health Services Management, and Business Administration.
After clinical research at the University of Sevilla, Spain she worked in different positions related to clinical research practice, and since 2009 she has been a faculty member at the Medical School of the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas, in San Jose, Costa Rica. She has been Academic Vice rector at UCIMED since 2020.
She is the Director of IICIMED, Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Médicas established in 2015. IICIMED has developed multiple clinical protocols, providing participants with innovative therapeutic treatments for their different pathologies.
Dr García is a passionate promoter of the development and growth of Clinical Research in Costa Rica, and she has always been interested in collaborating with sponsors and regulatory authorities to make her country achieve a significant position in the development of the Biomedical Research industry. At the same time, she has always promoted the education and training of medical personnel as well as the population in general, to provide a wider vision of the importance and benefits of Biomedical Research for humankind in general.
Dr García has been actively involved in accreditation both national and international for over 10 years. She considers accreditation to be fundamental in medical education today.
