Erin Downey, MPH, ScD is the Director of Operations at the World Federation for Medical Education. Dr Downey has more than 20 years of experience in building health care crisis response systems with 10 years emphasizing the protection of global health and medical professionals during their deployments and activations. Her experience includes working with the WHO, ICRC, USAID and the U.S. Department of State. From 2013-18, she was the elected Vice President of Congresses for the World Association for Disaster Emergency Medicine.
She received her doctoral training from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she later designed and taught a Master of Public Health course in disaster management. She is a former fellow within the American Association for the Advancement of Science and her current academic affiliation is with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative within the Department of Global Health and Population.
