President of the Western Pacific Association for Medical Education (WPAME)
Professor Dr Yong Rafidah Abdul Rahman is a family medicine specialist and medical educator with extensive experience in academic management as well as quality assurance in higher education.
She worked in active clinical medicine for fourteen years before embarking on an academic career. Throughout the past twenty years, she had served few universities and held various academic management and leadership positions, including being:
- Director, Quality Assurance (Medical & Health Science Cluster), Management and Science University, Malaysia
- Dean, International Medical School, Management and Science University
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Asia Metropolitan University (AMU)
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience & Learning Support), AMU
- Director, Quality Management & Enhancement Centre, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS)
- Deputy Dean (Academic), Faculty of Medicine, CUCMS
Apart from teaching medical undergraduates and postgraduate students (in Family Medicine & Medical Education), her experiences include managing quality management system of the university (including ISO 9001 certification), overseeing university enhancement initiatives, accreditation of academic programs, curriculum management as well as training of academic staff in various aspects of quality management in higher education. Being a certified ISO 9001 Quality Management System Lead Auditor, she has substantial experience as internal auditor in universities that she had served. Dr Yong Rafidah is also an assessor of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and Malaysian Medical Council for accreditation of Malaysian medical as well as other health programmes.
From her involvement in internal and external quality assurance in higher education, she has advised, reviewed as well as audited over 100 medical, allied health and other academic programs. She has numerous research achievements, publications, conference and other academic presentations to her credit.
