Professor Rita Sood
Rita Sood died on 8 April 2021. She was a former President of the South East Asian Regional Association for Medical Education, SEARAME, and represented SEARAME on the World Federation Executive Council for many years. Her contributions to the Executive Council were always calm, judicious and greatly valued.

New President of the Association for Medical Education in the Eastern Mediterranean
Dr Ahmed Al Rumayyan was elected as the President of AMEEMR at a recent meeting of the AMEEMR Executive. Dr Al Rumayyan is Dean of the College of Medicine at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Riyadh. WFME is very pleased to welcome him to the WFME Executive Council.
Landmark for the World Directory of Medical Schools
One thousand medical schools have now been added to the World Directory of Medical Schools since it began in its present form in 2014. This milestone was passed in the last few weeks. The new listings are from almost every country in the world with a medical school, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
Re-election of the WFME Vice-President
The WFME Executive Council is pleased to announce that, during the Executive Council meeting held on 3 and 4 September 2020, the Council re-elected unanimously Professor Ducksun Ahn to a post of the WFME Vice-President.
Dr Claire de Burbure
Claire de Burbure died on 22 July 2020. She was an adviser to WFME from 2015, working in many areas – on the World Directory of Medical Schools, supporting our interaction with WHO, helping with links to Francophone countries world-wide, and contributing to the next edition of the WFME standards for basic medical education.
