Professor Rita Sood

April 9, 2021

Rita Sood died on 8 April 2021.

She was a former President of the South East Asian Regional Association for Medical Education, SEARAME, and represented SEARAME on the World Federation Executive Council for many years.  Her contributions to the Executive Council were always calm, judicious and greatly valued.

Rita was Professor of Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.  A passionate teacher, her many appointments included being Professor In Charge of the Centre for Medical Education at AIIMS. She was also Founder President of the Academy for Health Professions Education, in India

For women, Rita was an important figure. In her own personal; and professional life, she was strong enough to succeed without losing her humanity, her appreciation of others, her empathy, her equivalence, and her ability to analyse what enables and impedes women in her profession. She spoke out for and to women.

Rita will be very much missed, she was a person of great elegance, energy and intellectual power.  WFME extends its sympathy to her husband Arun, her sons, and all her family.
