In 2020, the Executive Council commissioned a comprehensive review to take stock of WFME’s current operations. The objective was to identify where improvements to policies, processes and governance might be needed, to explore how the organisation can strengthen its global network to support development of, and local decision making in, the delivery of medical education, and to examine the potential for future growth.
The final report makes over 50 recommendations where actions taken should pave the way for longer-term prosperity as in the course of the review it became clear that changes across the international landscape of medical education could have significant implications for WFME. With the 50th anniversary celebrations and WFME Conference coming up, this is an ideal time to demonstrate WFME’s commitment to a progressive and creative programme of work that builds on existing achievements and future-proofs the organisation’s position on the international stage.
The Executive Council has agreed that now it is the time to prioritise the individual recommendations and follow-up actions.
The review was led by Mark Dexter, Senior Policy Adviser to WFME, on secondment from the UK General Medical Council.
