1. Expression of Interest
Accrediting agencies interested in obtaining WFME PGME Recognition must first express interest by contacting the WFME.
Contact email: pgme.recognition@wfme.org
2. Preliminary Application
WFME provides the agency with a preliminary application template, which must be completed and returned for review. WFME verifies its completeness and may request additional documentation.
3. Eligibility Review by Recognition Committee
The WFME PGME Recognition Committee reviews the preliminary application based on the Eligibility Criteria and makes a determination. If eligibility is confirmed, the applicant is informed, and a full application template is provided.
4. Submission of Full Application
The completed full application is submitted to WFME, which verifies its completeness and may request additional documentation.
5. Nomination of the Recognition Team
WFME nominates a Recognition Team, typically consisting of four members: one chair, one secretary and two team members. The agency can review the proposed team to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
6. Recognition Evaluation
This process comprises three elements carried out by the Recognition Team:
- A thorough review of the full application.
- On-site observation/evaluation of the agency’s accreditation processes, including a site visit.
- On-site or virtual observation/evaluation of a meeting of the agency’s decision-making body.
7. Recognition Report
Following the on-site evaluation and observation of the decision-making meeting, the Recognition Team prepares a report detailing their findings. WFME reviews the draft report and sends it to the accrediting agency for review and feedback on any factual errors or omissions. The agency has 30 days to provide their response.
8. Finalisation of the Report
The Recognition Team finalises the report after reviewing the accrediting agency’s feedback.
9. Recognition Decision
The WFME PGME Recognition Committee convene to discuss and determine the agency’s recognition status. The Recognition Team’s final report serves as the primary source of information for this decision.
10. Communication
WFME formally communicates the final decision to the accrediting agency. If PGME Recognition Status is granted, WFME issues a recognition certificate and publishes the decision on its website.
