WFME Announces New Executive Director

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Marisa Nimrod, MD, MPH, has been selected as the organisation’s Executive Director. In this role, Dr. Nimrod will provide strategic direction and operational leadership to guide the work of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) international Secretariat.

A highly accomplished physician, global health leader, and healthcare executive, Dr. Nimrod brings over 13 years of diverse experience spanning clinical medicine, health systems leadership, public health, medical education, and international health policy.  Her appointment marks an important milestone for the federation as we continue our core mission to enhance the quality of medical education worldwide.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Marisa Nimrod to the international Secretariat as our new Executive Director,” said WFME President, Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez. “Her extensive background in clinical medicine, public health policy, and regional health systems leadership, combined with her deep commitment to workforce development, makes her uniquely qualified to steer our operations. We look forward to the energy and global perspective she will bring to WFME.”

Dr. Nimrod holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from St. George’s University, Grenada, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global Health. Throughout her distinguished career, she has held senior positions, including Chief Medical Officer within the hospital sector, Past President of the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association (T&TMA), and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Association for Oncology and Haematology (CAOH). Her extensive work with regional and international bodies—such as the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)—demonstrates her ability to build strong, evidence-based policy collaborations across the Caribbean and with international partners.

“I am deeply honoured to serve as Executive Director of the World Federation for Medical Education,” Dr. Nimrod stated. “At a time when healthcare systems face unprecedented opportunities and challenges, the quality of medical education has never been more important. I am especially proud to represent the Caribbean in this global leadership role, and I bring to this appointment a deep passion for advancing excellence, equity, innovation, and accountability in medical education.”

She added, “I look forward to working with WFME’s global partners to strengthen medical education systems and ensure that future generations of physicians are prepared to meet the evolving health needs of communities around the world.”

As Executive Director, Dr. Nimrod will oversee and develop WFME’s operations and support the Executive Council.

WFME warmly welcomes Dr. Nimrod to the role and looks forward to the leadership and vision she will bring to the organisation.
