The World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) actively participated in the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) held in May in Geneva. The WHA, convened by the WHO, is the world’s highest decision-making body on global health issues. With a focus on advancing the health agenda, this year’s assembly drew significant attention to addressing emerging health challenges and building more resilient health systems.

In conjunction with the WHA 76, WFME held meetings with representatives from various WHO regions and international helathcare organisations. These bilateral discussions centred on standards and accreditation processes in medical education, addressing regional healthcare disparities and similarities.

Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez, President of WFME, expressed his optimism about the progress made during the discussions. He emphasised the shared commitment of all stakeholders towards shaping a sustainable future for medical education and healthcare delivery worldwide.

After the WHA 76 concluded, WFME has remained actively engaged in developing the relationship between WFME and WHO regions, mainly through networking and connecting the WFME Regional Associations with representatives of respective WHO regions.

The outcomes of these deliberations hold the potential to uplift medical education standards and further develop collaboration opportunities leading to positive results in enhancing medical education.
