WFME was very sorry to learn that Peter Dieter, President of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE), died on December 25th, 2019, in Dresden, Germany.
Peter Dieter was elected as President of AMSE in 2014. Under his presidency, AMSE made significant contributions to the field of quality assurance of medical schools and the quality of medical training in Europe. He was deeply involved in medical education and the organisation as well as the leadership of Medical Schools nationally and internationally.
Before becoming the president of AMSE, Peter Dieter was the Dean of Student Affairs for the undergraduate medical program at the Medical Faculty of the Carl Gustav Carus Technical University Dresden (from 1999 to 2007). He was responsible for the reform of the Dresden Medical Programme, and he was one of the founders of the German Master Medical Education Programme.
