New WFME Declaration Launched

WFME Unveils New Declaration at 2025 World Conference in Bangkok

At the WFME World Conference held in Bangkok in May 2025, we proudly launched the WFME Declaration on Institutions’ Responsibility to Support Medical Students, Physicians in Postgraduate Education, and Physicians in Practice—a bold and timely statement of collective commitment to the wellbeing and professional development of those who care for our communities.

Why this Declaration Matters

Building on the 1988 Edinburgh Declaration, it calls on academic and health institutions, professional organisations, and individuals worldwide to take meaningful, sustained action in support of the health, wellbeing, and growth of medical learners and practitioners across all stages of their careers. The Declaration affirms a shared global responsibility: that caring for those who care for others is fundamental to building stronger, more effective health systems—and ultimately, healthier populations.

The message at the heart of the Declaration is clear and urgent: Safeguarding the wellbeing of medical students and physicians is not optional—it is essential.

WFME Vice-President, Geneviève Moineau, launches the WFME Declaration with Venkatesh Karthikeyan, JDN Publications Director, and Kana Halić Kordić, IFMSA Liaison Officer for Medical Education Issues.

The responsibility does not lie with individuals alone. Institutions must lead the way by creating supportive, inclusive, and professionally nurturing environments. This requires systems-level change, proactive leadership, and a culture that values and protects the people at the core of medical care.

Play Your Part by Signing the Declaration

By endorsing this Declaration, you become part of a global movement committed to transforming the culture of medical education and healthcare. Together, we can shape a future where all physicians—at every stage—are supported to thrive, so they can best serve the patients and communities who rely on them.

Your voice matters. Your support is essential. Join us in driving meaningful change!
